Marcus Hicks-Pope

Executive Assistant

I’m excited to join HER because I support the mission. I support women, and I want to see women be successful. It takes a village to raise a child but it takes consistent support and guidance to help that - now - young adult become the person they want to be. That is what HER did for me, and that is what I am willing to do for the next woman that reaches out to HER.

Executive Assistant to the Founder & President

Marcus enthusiastically joins the HER team after being part of its growing community since late 2015. He brings with him seven years of youth advocacy based on his experience aging out of the DC foster care system at 21 years old. He has first hand knowledge of what changes must occur if we want to see our youth succeed.

Prior to joining HER, Marcus held a supervisory role at Logan Ace Hardware where he thrived under the guidance of the owner. He previously worked for nonprofits providing support for their administrative needs. Marcus took part in the DC Mayor’s Youth Summer Work Program and served as a Youth Ambassador with the DC’s Child and Family Services Administration from 16-21 years old.

Marcus is a motivational speaker having given speeches in large forums such as seminars and fundraisers. He is a proud member of the LGBT community and unwaveringly uses his voice to advocate for human rights.

Marcus has a big heart and selflessly shares his love for the world with individuals who often feel alone, like he once did. Marcus looks forward to using his experience, strength, and hope to continue finding ways to help the next person.
